Well South Asia tries to have an organisation like EU and i.e. SAARC but it fails and not seem to become obsolete. The main factor of this is India Pakistan relations. After Pulwama incident of 2019 Pakistan and India do not have any official meeting. Also India boycott the SAARC meeting of that year which was to be held in Islamabad.
Many other south asian countries such as Afghanistan , Bangladesh , Sri Lanka , Bhutan come in support of India and also boycott the meeting. Also one reason for the downfall of SAARC is that Pakistan’s sincere support to the Taliban govt that overthrown the democratic govt in 2021. Pakistan want that this govt should be recognised by the SAARC countries and pakistan put all his efforts.
Also Pakistan wanted to make China a full-member of SAARC which did not suite the Indian interest as India see SAARC as group which demonstrate his power in the south asia region. Also SAARC’s vision was to have free trade agreement between them and visa free travel of its nationals to the SAARC countries. But these dream cannot be fulfill because of Pakistan short term vision and its Kashmir obsession for which its economy is been ruined.
