IPCC is a UN organistaion & their functioning & reports are highly bureaucratic.
195 countries & 2 organistion i.e. World Meterological Organisation (WMO) & United Nation Environmental Program (UNEP) setup Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
3 working groups under IPCC are:
i.The Physical Science Basis of Climate change: How they(Greenhouse gases) are produced & how they bring about the climate change.
ii.Impacts, Adaptation & Vulnerability of climate Change
iii.Mitigation of climate change
The Taskforce on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories : What can be done to the greenhouse gas that has been produced.
A Greenhouse gas is a gas thatabsorb & emits radiant energy within thermal infrared range. Without greenhouse gases the average temp of earth will be -18°C. Water vapour is also a greenhouse gas because it moderates temperature. Other greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide, methane, Chlorofluorocarbon. These three are the most offensive greenhouse gases because they are products of human activity.
Since 1750(Industial Revolution) till now our Carbon dioxide emission have gone up 50% in the world. Untill 1750 climate change doesn't taking place.1750 onwards as engines came in ,fuels came ,internal combustion. Use of energy change things.In 1750 the total CO
2 availablein our environment was 228 parts per million(ppm) today it is 419 ppm. 1st industrial revolution & anthropogenic changes started in 1750.
Last time we had temperature of this kind that this CO
2 is now producing was 3 million years ago that was plaeocine period as per IPCC report.Another interesting fact is that 3 million years ago first human being just evolved.
Chlorofluorocarbon (CFCs) are fully or partly halogenated paraffin hydrocarbons that contain only carbon (C),hydrogen (H),chlorine (Cl) & fluorine (F) produced as volatile derivative of methane, ethane & Propane. When we burn those gas(methane, ethane & Propane) then we get this as a kind of by product this is also known by the duPont company's old brand name freon. Freon used in refrigerator, air conditioner &in many other things. It is also a propellant as used in deodrant,mosquito repellants. Since we use it a lot we observe it is punching a hole in ozone layer.
As ozone layer becomes thinner it allows UV radiationsto pass through it.The world replaced CFC by HCFC (hydrochlorofluorocarbon).A deal is made where developed countries helped developing countries to shift to environmentally friendly coolents & proplents.The same debate is right now on carbon dioxide.
Accordinf to Paris Climate Accord developed countries have to give $100 billion per year to developing countries.IPCC report suggest developed countries need to spend more. Joe Biden rejoined Paris Climate Accord after Donald Trump walked away.
Countries of Africa,India,Bangladesh,Pakistan etc. with large population has no choice they will go up in emission scale,energy usage scale.
